This exercise asked to create a number of thumbnail sketches from images taken of a collection of objects around a pre selected theme. I decided to choose the theme ‘The morning after’. Me and my wife had gone out celebrating our anniversary but had a few drinks at home to begin with. In the morning I had some toast and I took some painkillers to settle the hangover headache With some strong coffee. I tried to combine the objects to create a visually interesting piece but something that could be read and understood for what it was.
I liked the close up images of the objects suggesting a mess and the ones that I had taken looking through the bottles simulating the haziness of the morning. Next I drew from these images but using different formats such as long rectangles, square and other odd shapes.

My favourite design from these thumbnail studies was the images within the shape of the crushed beer can. I think having this shape allowed you to see the aftermath of the night but could also represent several things. Taking this a stage further I drew up a larger and more refined image but limited my time spent on it as the brief stated not to produce a final piece of artwork but only a visual of what it could be. I sketched quickly and refrained from using too much detail keeping the whole drawing under 30 minutes. I also decided to change the image inside the can shape as I felt it showed more than the close up sections.
